What is a registered office address?

A registered office is a legal requirement for all Companies registered at Companies House.

It is the official address of the incorporated company and is publicly available for anyone to view.

The address can be different to that of your usual trading address. The address will be used by Companies House, HMRC and other Government bodies to deliver statutory letters and legal notices.

All companies are legally required to display the registered office address on business correspondence such as letters and on the business website etc.

The benefits of this service:
Protect your identity and address with a real address as your company Registered Office. This service includes free Statutory Mail forwarding (this is mail from HMRC & Companies House, sent to the Company) – this mail is scanned & emailed worldwide.

Our service is private and confidential.

What about my Post?
With our Registered Office service we will receive and forward your Statutory Mail (mail from HMRC or Companies House addressed to the Company) free of charge. This mail is scanned & emailed worldwide. This is completely free of charge and we do not charge any mail handling or any other fee for Statutory Mail sent to the Company and forwarded to you this way. This makes our service address an affordable and popular option for many businesses and start-ups, it can be used by businesses of any size.

We will forward Statutory Mail as soon as possible after it arrives. We are also happy to hold mail for a time if you are not able to receive forwarded mail at your end, just let us know. (If we are to hold mail for an extended time, we may charge storage fees)

Only Statutory Post will be forwarded with this service, this mail will be scanned & emailed; if you want other Business Mail forwarded or a Directors Service Address etc. then these additional facilities can be purchased at any time.

Why have a registered office address?
It is a legal requirement that a UK company must provide a registered office address which is the official address for all corresponded from Companies House and HMRC. The address is publicly available and has to legally be displayed on company correspondence and websites etc.

The address you provide must be a real UK address not a PO Box. Our registered office address service is ideal as it provides you with a real address on a real street.

When we receive statutory post from Companies House and HMRC in your company name we will forward worldwide by mail scan and email.

Who can use this service?
Our Registered Office Service can only be used by companies that are incorporated in England & Wales, or are in the process of planning to incorporate a company in this jurisdiction. Companies that have been formed either in Scotland (SC) or Northern Ireland (NI) are required to have a registered office in the same country as where they are registered.

We also provide a Directors Service Address which allows the purchaser to keep their own address off public record and Business Mail Forwarding Services for the rest of your Business mail; these are separate and different services to the Registered Office Service.

What is a company’s registered office address?

A registered office address is the official address of a company (or limited liability partnership) registered with Companies House. By virtue of Section 86 of the Companies Act 2006, every company must always have a registered office in the UK, even if it carries on its business from abroad (or just sells products online rather than from a physical location).

The registered office is the address to which government bodies – primarily Companies House and HMRC, but possibly also other agencies – may address official communications, notices and reminders relating to the company.

It is assumed that any official notice sent to the company’s registered office address has been received by the company. Because of this, the company’s registered office address must be effective for delivering documents to the company and its directors. It’s the company’s responsibility to ensure they have access to documents received at this address.

A company’s registered office address is shown on the public register and is available to everyone. This helps support corporate transparency, making it easy to see where a company is officially based. On the other hand, it does give an address to which some people may choose to send unsolicited marketing. Partly for that reason, many companies select a registered office address that’s different to their usual business address.

Other services you may need, or wish to have, include:

Directors Service Address – Just £19 p/a (per Director, Per Company, Per Year)

A Directors Service Address is an official mailing address that all company directors are lawfully expected to have.

A Directors Service Address is different from the Registered office and is a different and separate service.

The distinction between a Registered Office address and a Directors Service Address: A service address is needed by every limited company director as an official mailing address. Their personal mail from HMRC and the Companies House is sent to their service address. This can be situated anywhere across the globe.

On the other hand, a registered office address is the official address of a Limited Liability Partnership (LLP) or a Limited (Ltd) company. All legal notices and official mail addressed to a LLP or a company will be delivered to their registered office.

Note: If you purchase a Registered Office Service, your company listing on Companies House will be checked periodically.  If we find that a Director is showing as using our address as their Service Address without having purchased this facility, this service will be invoiced-for from the date of commencement of using our address.  We will not forward any mail when an account has an unpaid invoice for services being used, until the account is in good standing.
